Barbara Trenholm, Professor of Accounting

Barbara Trenholm was educated at Mount Allison University (B.Comm.) and the University of Maine (MBA), earning honours in both of these programs. She joined, and earned her CA designation with, the Office of the Auditor General. In 1980, she commenced her teaching career at the Faculty of Business Administration, University of New Brunswick. Throughout her career, she has received numerous honours including the Governor General's Gold Medal and the prestigious FCA designation.
In particular, Barbara Trenholm's teaching and educational leadership is renowned. She is a recipient of the National Post/PricewaterhouseCoopers Leaders in Management Education Award, the Global Teaching Excellence Award, and the University of New Brunswick's Merit Award and Dr. Allan P. Stuart Award for Excellence in Teaching. In addition, she was named a Teaching Fellow of the University of New Brunswick. A recent edition of the Maclean's Guide to Canadian Universities and Colleges named her as one of the University of New Brunswick's most popular professors.
Within the university community, Barbara has served in past as the Co-Chair of the Pension Plan for Academic Employees and as acting dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. She has been involved in a wide range of faculty and university committees, including serving on the university's senate.
Professor Trenholm is a prolific author of material that enhances teaching and learning effectiveness. She incorporates technology into every aspect of her teaching, from course and material design through delivery to assessment of student learning. She has Canadianized two introductory accounting textbooks and authored multimedia supplements, which are widely used across Canada in a number of universities and colleges.
Barbara has also published in the field of accounting standard setting and explored various director and auditor liability issues in journals including Accounting Horizons, International Journal of Production Economics, CAmagazine, CGA Magazine, and CMA Management.
